Touch Screen Test

Drag your finger across the grid. Every cell you touch lights up, so dead zones stand out.

Works on iPhone & Android

How to use

  1. 1Tap Start test to open the full-screen grid.
  2. 2Slowly drag a finger over every cell, including edges and corners.
  3. 3Cells that don't light up may be unresponsive areas.
  4. 4Place several fingers down to check the multi-touch counter.
  5. 5Tap Reset to clear, or Exit when you're done.

Why test your touch screen?

Touch problems are often patchy: a strip that ignores taps, a corner that misses swipes, or phantom touches. The grid makes these patterns visible. It's useful after a drop, after a screen replacement, or when buying a used phone.

Understanding the results

  • A line or block of unlit cells: likely a damaged digitiser in that area.
  • Cells lighting up on their own: ghost touches, sometimes caused by a faulty screen protector, moisture or a charger.
  • Multi-touch count lower than expected: some screens support fewer touch points, or a finger isn't registering.

Things to try before repair

Remove the screen protector and case and test again — badly fitted protectors are a common cause. Unplug the charger, since cheap chargers can cause erratic touches. Clean and dry the screen and your hands. Restart the phone. If the problem stays in the same place, the digitiser may need replacing.

Multi-touch explained

Most modern phones detect at least five, often ten, simultaneous touches. The counter shows how many points the browser currently receives. Browsers may reserve some gestures, so pinch or edge-swipe actions near the screen edge might not appear.

Frequently asked questions

How many touch points should my phone detect?

Most phones support 5–10. The exact number depends on the hardware.

Why do edges not light up?

Some phones reserve edge gestures for the system. Try a slower drag starting slightly inside the edge.

What are ghost touches?

Touches the screen registers without you touching it. Try removing the protector and unplugging the charger.

Does this work with a stylus?

Yes, any input that the browser reports as a pointer will light up cells.

Can a screen protector cause dead zones?

Yes, especially thick or poorly fitted ones, or those with trapped air.

Is anything recorded?

No. The test runs locally and resets when you leave the page.
